Beauty and
the Beast Tryouts Planned for March 4
and 6
Local talent has always
been the foundation for the Three Lakes Theater Company (TLTC), and their
upcoming production of Beauty and
the Beast will be no exception.
“We are looking for an
energetic and talented group of actors to help us bring the whimsical
story of Beauty and the Beast
alive,” says Three Lakes Theater Company Marketing Director Linda
Goldsworthy of the group’s upcoming tryouts on March 4 and 6, 2008
In its 14 years of
existence, the TLTC has made an effort to switch between genres of musical
theater, and Beauty and the Beast will
be no exception. Past shows
have included Peter Pan, Cinderella,
Oklahoma
!, Fiddler on the Roof, Camelot,
South Pacific, Brigadoon, Hello, Dolly!, Annie Get Your Gun, The Wizard of
Oz, GODSPELL, Li’l Abner and
2007’s The Sound of Music.
“When the TLTC Board of
Directors sits down to select a show, we try to select something that is
completely different from the year before—as we are constantly asked
‘How are you going to top last year’s show?’
Switching genres allows us to keep people wondering and expecting.
It’s hard to compare shows when they are so different.
That was one of the reasons we followed Li’l
Abner up with The Sound of Music,”
explains Goldsworthy.
The cast will consist of
about 20 members for the June 19-21 and June 26-28 productions.
While the majority of the
cast for Beauty and the Beast must be able to sing, a few non-singing
roles exist.
“We will need actors
with vocal abilities ranging from several baritones to mezzo-sopranos,”
says Goldsworthy. “We’d
encourage interested participants to look over the Music Theatre
International website at www.mtishows.com
to learn more about each of the roles and their requirements.”
Many well-known songs are
high-lighted in Beauty and the Beast, including Walt Disney’s unofficial
theme song “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast”
Tryout Information
Tryouts for the production
will take place from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 6 at
the Three Lakes School auditorium.
Community members
auditioning for the production should be prepared to perform a musical
selection of personal choice, singing a cappella or providing an
accompanist. The final portion of the initial tryout will involve
participation in acting exercises and reproducing a short choreographed
piece.
“We are constantly on
the lookout for new talent,” explains Goldsworthy. “So if you’re new
to the area or simply have a passion for musical theater, we’d really
encourage you to tryout. Besides, it’s a great way to get involved in
the community and to meet new people.”
Those interested in
auditioning for the production should contact Nancy Anderson at 479-8900.
All messages will be returned.
