Benefit Auction Scheduled to Begin May 29

Northwoods residents and theatergoers are encouraged to log on to E-bay and donate to a great cause, the Lindsay McKenzie Memorial Music Scholarship.
The Three Lakes Theater Company will be auctioning six tickets to its Friday, June 18, 2004 , production of “The Wizard of Oz,” with all proceeds benefiting Lindsay’s memory.
A 2004 graduate of Rhinelander High School who was active in jazz band, drama, concert band and treble choir, the 18-year-old was planning to study vocal jazz at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.  However, in August of 2003 she was diagnosed with a rare, and ultimately incurable, brain cancer.
Following her passing on November 17, 2003 , her parents, Bill and Linda McKenzie, requested that memorials be used to create a scholarship in their daughter’s name.
“We are excited about the prospect of helping raise money for this scholarship,” says TLTC Publicity Director, Linda Goldsworthy, one of Lindsay’s teachers.  “She was an extraordinary young woman who loved the fine arts and believed in standing up for what was right.”
Goldsworthy was not Lindsay’s only connection to the group, TLTC sound technician Brian Bex had been dating her for one and a half years.  He, along with Lindsay’s parents and friends, went to great lengths to fundraise so the scholarship could become a reality.
At Goldsworthy’s suggestion, the TLTC Board of Directors decided raise money for the scholarship using an E-bay auction.  “We are in the process of creating a scholarship for students in the arts.  Lindsay’s memorial seemed like a great springboard for starting our own program,” she explained.
The E-bay auction for the six tickets will begin on Saturday, May 29 and will end 14 days later.
“The tickets are in row J of the center section.  They are premier seats for seeing all the special effects and showcasing the auditorium’s acoustics,” said Goldsworthy.
The six tickets will be auctioned off in pairs.  “We’re hoping that by auctioning off the six tickets in pairs will attract more bidders.  This way, either a group of two, four or six can enjoy the show.”
Starting bids for each pair of tickets will be face value, $20.
To bid any or all of the tickets, simply log on to www.ebay.com.  The tickets will be listed under the following title: Wizard of Oz Tickets – Three Lakes .  The sub-title will read: Lindsay McKenzie Scholarship Fundraiser.
“Our hope is that the Northwoods will help us raise money for this great cause.  Lindsay loved music and musical theater. I can think of no better way to honor her memory than by adding to that scholarship fund,” concluded Goldsworthy.
